The Future Of Def Jam?

L.A. Reid & Island Def Jam Music Group have announced today that Shakir Stewart will be taking the place of Jay-Z former position, President Of Def Jam Recordings. Shakir is taking a big leap from his former position, senior VP of A&R.

Shakir is now responsible to take on tasks such as igning new talent, overseeing producers and guiding the creative vision of the legendary label. Mr. Steward will have to report to L.A. Reid and Steve Bartels and will be responsible for all day-to-day events regarding Def Jam.

 

L.A. Reid, recently spoke with AllHipHop.com and here’s what he had to say about the decision.

“The bold young management style that Shakir has established at Def Jam is one of the major reasons behind the label’s success today. From his solid roots in music publishing, he has grown to master the world of hip-hop and urban music.”

 

Shakir got his start got his start in the music business promoting shows for artists such as: Nas, Luke, Too Short and many more. He graduated college with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and right after formed Noontime Music and landed a joint venture deal with Epic Records.
